My Past Physical Fitness
By Cindy Posey | July 4, 2007
Up until I had babies, I was always involved in a physical fitness program or activity. When I was eight, I started playing basketball in our small town little leagues. I played basketball up til 11th grade. I picked up volleyball in junior high and played it through my senior year. I started running for my admissions tests to the U.S. Naval Academy. I was at my physical peak during plebe summer (think military boot camp for 6 weeks). The next four years at the Academy included swim classes, weight training, judo, tennis, volleyball, and basketball. I became an aerobics instructor, but have since let that certification lapse. I continued to run and completed the Marine Corps Marathon in 1999. It took me 5 and half hours to complete, but I did it. During my Navy career, the elliptical trainer became my best friend. Running circles on a ship’s deck at sea is a test of balance, timing and frustrations (many stubbed toes on steel). The swells didn’t seem to be as challenging on the elliptical trainer in the ship’s aerobics room.
I became the Physical Readiness Officer at my last command. I was in charge of administering the standards of physical readiness and tailor the command’s workouts for our sailors.
I earned a Physical Fitness Specialist certification with The Cooper Institute. I continue to study and take courses to keep the certification current and maintain a pulse on the ever changing field of fitness. The last two courses I completed dealt with Fitness for Women and Exercise Nutrition.
So here I am. Ready to share my passion and cheer you on, “Go Workout Mom!”
