Housecleaning Workout Tip: Unloading the Dishwasher

By Cindy Posey | September 12, 2007

housecleaning.jpgOften neglected from any form of regular exercise, the face can benefit from a few moments of attention outside of baggy eyes due to lack of sleep, hastily applied make up, or if you’re like me, no make up at all! What does the face have to do with the business of unloading the dishwasher? Here’s a daily activity that we do with out thinking. During this time, your hands are occupied and you’re already moving your feet. What are you doing with your face? Probably clinching your jaw or frowning, right? Next time you’re unloading the dishwasher, try these facial exercises:

  • Sour Lemon Face: Pretend like you’ve just taken a bite out of a lemon. Scrunch up your face and pull together your lips, eyebrows, and squint your eyes.
  • Lion Roar Face: Pretend like you’re a lion and expand your facial muscles. Open your mouth wide and lift up your eyebrows. Expand the muscles on your face.
  • Smiles and Laughter: Practice different smiles and laugh out loud.
  • Repeat the above exercises as you unload the dishwasher.

With your children, this activity provides a fun playtime opportunity. They can practice the faces with you, add sounds, and play around the kitchen. Before you know it, you’ve completed another “boring” household routine with tons of laughter and fun experiences. If you’re by yourself, you can release stress, lose it a bit, and wonder how you could have so much fun unloading the dishwasher! As an added bonus, exercising your facial muscles has healthy benefits for smoother skin and stress relief.
