Housecleaning Workout Tip: Yoga and the Bathtub

housecleaning.jpgYoga and the Bathtub, huh? Yep, I’ve found a way to make the very unpleasant job of cleaning the bathtub a bit more tolerable. I’m a newbie when it comes to incorporating Yoga into my life. As one of my my mid-term goals to become more flexible, I’ve begun taking Yoga classes at the Y and practicing a few new poses.

Two poses that I find easy to do and great stress relievers are the Dog and Cat Pose. Since I am not an expert in describing how to do either the poses, I’ve attached the Dog Pose claimed to “remove fatigue, improve breathing, improve circulation of blood to the brain, and rejuvenate the entire body.” The Cat Pose “loosens your back and spine. It also stretches the front and back of your body and frees your neck and shoulders. Doing the Cat Tilt elongates your back muscles and makes your abdominal muscles contract. Doing the Cat Pose benefits your health by stimulating spinal fluid and the digestive tract, and by improving circulation through the spine and core. It is also beneficial in managing stress.”

I usually clean the bathtub right before I take my own shower. I spray the tub with Scrubbing Bubbles and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I get in on my hands and knees and wipe it down. By adding a few repetitions of the Cat and Dog Pose to my ritual, I only add a couple of minutes to my time in the shower. I feel the stress of the day dissipate and I come out of the shower more relaxed with a clean body and bathtub. What more can a busy mom ask for in a day!
