It's Time for Goal Call Monday

By Cindy Posey | January 13, 2008

goal-call-monday.jpgGoal Call Monday is your opportunity to be focused, accountable, and motivated to make your goal of the week a success.

The Winner is…

Karen of Scraps of Mind. Not only did she win a Victoria Secret Romantic Wish Hand and Body Cream (7.25 oz), but more importantly, she was happy to report a successful weekly goal to complete 4 walks in a week. Congratulations Karen! I look forward to seeing how you did this week.

How does this all work?

1. Write you goal in the comments below. You’re welcome to return every week and build upon your goals! One goal per person per week.

2. In next week’s Goal Call Monday, share you accomplishments, challenges and failures (yes, this is the accountability part) and anything else you’d like to share with us about your goal.

3. If you jump in late in the week, adjust your goal to the number of days left!

4. Subscribe to my feed so that you don’t forget to leave your results. You’ll be reminded when Goal Call Monday pops up!

5. Feel free to motivate and support each other.

Why You Want to Participate:

Focus on your top one-week goal in health, diet or exercise.

Accountability is shared here in the comments and by coming back with the results.

Motivation will be provided through your desire to achieve your goal and return with good news or the challenges you faced. You’ll receive encouragement from everyone here. As an extra motivation, I’ll enter anyone who participates in a weekly, random drawing to receive a surprise reward (different prizes given each week).

Goal Call from Last Week

Five contestants are up for the drawing this week. How did you do? Did you accomplish your goal, get stuck, have a funny story to tell?

  • Karen: Up for the running once again. Keep up the good work with those walks. How did it feel this week? Were things a bit easier?
  • Blaine: Great job getting 45 miles out of 50 miles in even with snow and ice. Did the weather hold up for a nice outdoor session? Were you able to get a max heart rate estimate?
  • Workout Mommy: Way to get that green veggie (How did you only go with broccoli?) in during the week. I hope those muscles are loosening up. How did the stretches go?
  • CFO: Isn’t it a wonderful feeling when you set aside that small amount of time for yourself? One hour can do wonders for the rest of the week. I’m so proud of you. I can’t wait to here how you did this week!
  • Debbie: Sleep does wonders for the body. What a great way to start focusing on yourself. What is your favorite cream for your hands?

I look forward to hearing how you did with your goals this week. A surprise reward will go to one of you for commenting on the results (good or bad)! You have through Saturday to check in and report.

To see their original goals, click here and read the comments.

Ready to Play? It’s simple:

1. Enter your goal in the comments below (anytime during the week).

2. Enter your results in next week’s Goal Call Monday.

Are you ready? What is your goal in health, diet or exercise this week?

I got over to the track, but I wound up running with somebody that was already working out there rather than doing my own thing. While it was more fun, the intervals I ran didn’t really get my heart rate up since the effort wasn’t sustained enough.

Mileage for the week was going really well; had I gotten my planned weekend runs in I would have been right where I wanted to be. Unfortunately, 2 miles into Saturday’s run I slipped on some rocks after summiting Bradbury Mountain and went down hard. Thankfully, the rocks got a good hold of my skin through my tights before I slid over the cliff edge. Not so thankfully, they got a hold of my skin through my tights…I still got another 10 or 11 miles in, and most of the pain was from the abrasions rather than the impact so I got out for yesterday’s run. Rather than doing 10 or 12, though, I only ran 6 and a half – I had to go to the hardware store, and when I got back to drop off what I’d picked up I decided going back out for another 5 miles and instead stay home and eat. I still ran 48 or 49 miles, so that’s fine.

Today we’re getting 5 or 6 inches of snow, so I’ll shovel rather than run today most likely. I’m home from work through Tuesday, so I’ll aim at getting 8 to 12 miles in each day for the next three and then running normally Friday through Sunday. That will get me into the mid-50s.

Hi Blaine, That fall didn’t sound too pleasant. Glad to see you’re okay. Good work with your mileage.

Here’s my Update:

I was able to get two full 15 minute abdominal workouts in this past week, but I didn’t get the last one done. It was more like a 5 minute balance ball routine.

My goal for this week is to not go over 4 desserts.

Ugh, I gotta get back on the horse…I hurt my back while going up the stairs with The Little Man (kiddos are gettin’ heavy). Should I wait until it doesn’t hurt any more to run? I tend to run through the pain…I know that is bad.

Ugh, I let myself down this week. I started teaching classes again this week, so I needed all the extra stretching, but I just didn’t make the time. So, on that note, I’m carrying this one over for this week.

my goal is to set aside 10 minutes a day—for at least 4 days this week–to do some yoga like stretching.
My super tight hamstrings need this!!!

I’m rapt to have won last week’s prize Cindy. I started to slack off a bit this week and missed my walk this morning (no real reason just laziness). But this has given me a boost to get refocused again. Thanks a lot.

Cindy, I love that you’ve become my motivation coach! Thanks to my promise to you to work out this week, I found myself on the treadmill on Saturday night – the baby was asleep and my husband was doing books with our preschooler. It’s funny how I get on there and think, “I forgot how good it feels to work out!”

This week I will do cardio once and yoga once. I need the yoga at least as much as the cardio, because I carry so much tension in my muscles! Thanks, Cindy!

Hi Nap, Stretches for your back and walking would probably work best. Definitely not worth running on to make matters worst in the future.

Hi Karen, Package has been sent. Way to keep walking! You have plenty of days left to get your 4 in. There’s no need to beat yourself up!

Hi Workout Mommy, Your spinning classes sound like so much fun. Have fun adding the stretches into your day! I know you’ll find the time.

Hi CFO, I’m so happy you’re enjoying the workouts. That’s what counts and will keep you going! Once you remember how good it feels, you’ll not want to stop!
